Programs Explore Peacemaking, Sanctity of Life
By JustFaith Ministries
Christians, by vocation, are called “to be peacemakers,” and when we bear witness to the Gospel through our actions we are contributing to the witness of the Church to be a sign of justice, peace and reconciliation in the world today.
Just Peacemaking Initiative: The Challenge and Promise of Nonviolence for Our Time, one of the newer educational modules for small groups from JustFaith Ministries, looks at peacemaking through a lens of political and social analysis. It is composed of four distinct sections: Spirituality of Nonviolence and Just Peacemaking, Economic and Interracial Justice, Disarmament and Reconciliation with Justice and Human Rights and Global Restoration. In addition, four separate “film nights” are included as discussion resources in this program.
Through this program, participants are encouraged to create a peacemaking covenant with one another and challenged to make peacemaking central to their own personal identity. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, “It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.”
Another JustFaith program, “Sanctity of All Life,” addresses the death penalty and other life issues including abortion, euthanasia, in vitro fertilization and disabilities. An extensive list of suggested action ideas and resources for all of the life issues is provided with this particular educational program. It was designed by the Catholic Mobilizing Network to End the Use of the Death Penalty (CMN), an organization created with the encouragement of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). CMN worked with the Franciscan Action Network and the Pro-Life Office of the USCCB to develop this particular educational program by JustFaith Ministries.
