Awakening the Dreamer at Georgian Court University

Awakening the Dreamer sounds like a cool name, doesn’t it? Yes, it does, but it is so much more than just a cool name. It is literally a world-changing revolution. Awakening the Dreamer is a workshop promoted by the Sisters of Mercy that offers opportunities to become aware, reflect and respond to the urgent crisis of violence to earth and its inhabitants.
I had the privilege to be among a group of students participating in an Awakening the Dreamer facilitator training session at Georgian Court University. And I must say that it truly was a life-changing experience. Because of this training session I was able to understand that the world is ours to protect and preserve. More importantly, the world is only ours for the time being. Once we are gone the world will belong to our grand/great-grand children. However, we are not doing our part to take care of the Earth, even though Earth is doing its fair share and then some to fulfill our greedy needs. Awakening the Dreamer opened my eyes to what we have turned Earth into, and what Earth will become if we continue to misuse and abuse its natural resources.
During the training session we saw numerous videos about how and why Awakening the Dreamer was started, to explain what we have done to Earth and what we are doing to it. In addition, we saw videos that helped us understand that Awakening the Dreamer is about bringing forth a sustainable environment along with a spiritually fulfilling and a socially just one. When I came into this training session I really didn’t know what to expect, but the knowledge I left there with I will use wisely to make a difference and to educate others so they too can make a difference.
