The Vision of Mercy Alive
By Sister Patti
Venerable Catherine McAuley began the Sisters of Mercy because of needs she saw in Ireland in the 1800’s. She saw that women and children – especially those without education had the highest level of need. Because of this education was a primary concern. The sisters today see the same reality. Lack of education is a major cause of poverty.
Mercy Education Project in Detroit has assisted young girls and women through education. 100% of the women who graduate from the program go on to further education or employment. The assistance to these women is life changing. They have been recognized and received a grant because of the wonderful work they are doing. A further description of what they do and a description of the recognition can be found here.
